Restoration of African School #4 Continues in Faust Park

As detailed in an earlier blog post, African School #4—the oldest African American one-room schoolhouse in Missouri—has been relocated to Faust Park’s Historic Village. Restoration is currently underway.

Over the last seven months, the restoration has garnered media attention locally and beyond. View Fox 2’s recent feature (embedded video may load slowly):

Reverend Dr. Linda Settles, pastor of United Methodist Church of Green Trails, inspired her congregation to stand behind the project and assist in renovation efforts. Settles will also be interviewed on the Kelly Clarkson show.

The project is led by St. Louis County Parks Foundation and was supported by a $20,000 grant from the Krausse-Papendick Fund, a discretionary fund established by Lucille Papendick and held at the St. Louis Community Foundation.

The St. Louis County Parks Foundation is participating in Give STL Day on May 10, 2023.
