St. Louis Community Foundation Grants Total $100 Million

(ST. LOUIS, MARCH 24, 2023) — Despite a volatile stock market, donor gifts to the St. Louis Community Foundation in 2022 held steady at $99.3 million, while the Foundation and its donors directed more than $101.5 million to nonprofits, scholarships, and employee care recipients, Foundation officials announced today.

Gifts to the Foundation by donors were the fourth-highest in its 108-year history. Grants to recipient organizations and individuals exceeded $100 million for third consecutive year and total $690 million over the last five years.

“Our donors’ commitment to the St. Louis region and charitable giving remained remarkably steady in 2022, despite market and economic headwinds,” said Amelia Bond, president and CEO of the St. Louis Community Foundation.  “Our donors continue to support the nonprofits that do so much for our region today, while also showing interest in using the Foundation to endow the St. Louis region so that in the decades and years ahead, our community can leverage opportunities, respond quickly to local challenges, and invest in long-term projects or initiatives – not yet imagined.”

Bond has announced her intention to step down from her post this year and a national search is underway for her successor.

Since Bond joined the Community Foundation in 2011, donor grants to nonprofits have increased five-fold, from $19 million in 2012 to more than $101 million today. Donor fund accounts held at the Foundation have also doubled from approximately 400 to more than 800 today.  In addition, assets held by the Foundation increased from $183 million to $472 million.

“Our dedicated and knowledgeable staff, and their commitment to St. Louis and effective philanthropy have been the keys to our growth over the past 11 years,” said Bond. “It’s been a privilege to work alongside them as they have helped our donors maximize the impact of their charitable giving and constructively address local issues.”
