Nonprofit Spotlight: Covenant House Missouri

Each night, there are over 600 St. Louis youth who don’t have a safe place to sleep.

Convenant House Missouri (CHMO) welcomes youth who are runaway, trafficked, at-risk, or experiencing homelessness with unconditional love, absolute respect, and a place to call home.

In the past year, CHMO has provided:

  • 13,113 nights of housing
  • Support for 265 youth
  • 29,000+ meals
  • Mental health services to 129 youth

CHMO works to help young people ages 16–24 build productive, independent, and sustainable lives. Their comprehensive program, “Continuum of Care”, begins with street outreach, continues with crisis care, and evolves into long-term support.

This holistic approach is tailored to the specific needs of each individual youth and is the only shelter and service provider of its kind in the city of St. Louis.

“It means a lot to me that so many people are willing to give up their beds for a night. It reminds me that there are great people willing to end youth homelessness – it gives me hope,” explains an anonymous youth at CHMO.

CHMO is part of Covenant House International, an international federation with over 30 sites throughout North and South America. Since opening their doors over 40 years ago, Covenant House has helped transform the lives of over 1 million young people in need across their locations.

You can support Covenant House Missouri! Participate in a “Sleep Out” in solidarity with youth facing homelessness on November 18. Learn more about the event here.

“We’re grateful to have the opportunity to host this impactful event at Harris-Stowe State University, as well as offering a remote option for supporters outside of St. Louis. The temperature is starting to dip, the demand for shelter is rising, and we are humbled to be a solution for unhoused youth in our community,” said Covenant House Missouri CEO Jessica Erfling. “Our work is possible because of the generosity of each of the individuals who will spend the evening in solidarity with Covenant House youth and stand behind our mission year-round.”

Covenant House Missouri is a participant in Give STL Day. Give STL Day is powered by the St. Louis Community Foundation and will take place on May 5, 2022.
