Support Black Nonprofits on Give 8/28
The St. Louis Community Foundation is proud to support Give 8/28, the nation’s only giving day for and by Black-led, Black-benefitting nonprofits.
In 2023, under the leadership of the Young, Black, and Giving Back Institute (YBGB) the event raised more than $220,000 for 350 organizations. Areas of focus include economic development, community, religion, and arts.
YBGB states, “Give 8/28 gives grassroots Black-led and Black-benefitting nonprofit organizations a chance to amplify the work on the ground to empower Black people in all facets of life.”
Give 8/28 takes place during Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), a global celebration of African descendant giving held in August each year. BPM was launched in 2011 by Jackie Bouvier Copeland, Ph.D. and the Pan-African Women’s Philanthropy Network.
More than half of Give 8/28’s participating nonprofits operate with annual budgets of less than $100,000 and report raising up to a quarter of their annual donations on the giving day.
How We’re Helping
To increase local nonprofit participation in the giving day, the Community Foundation will sponsor cash prizes and cover the $25 registration fee for the first 40 organizations from the Greater St. Louis Metro who are approved to participate in the event.
The Foundation recently concluded a series of capacity-building trainings to support nonprofits ahead of Give 8/28 and other year-end fundraisers. Recordings are available:
