Community Foundation Hosts Nonprofit Night at the Armory
On May 8, to kick off the 11th annual Give STL Day, the St. Louis Community Foundation hosted Nonprofit Night at the Armory. The event was the first of its kind for the Foundation, and was a hit with nonprofit and public attendees alike.
More than 175 nonprofit organizations set up tables and booths across the second floor mezzanine. These engaging and educational displays helped event attendees learn more about each organization and their work. The space also became a hub for networking, with organizations meeting peers and forming new connections.
A surprise Power Hour was announced during the event, marking a time period in which Give STL Day donations were boosted by a $10,000 prize pool. More than $8,700 in donations poured in, resulting in a big boost to giving.
Over 400 players competed in St. Louis themed trivia to win cash prizes on behalf of their favorite nonprofit—and the competition was fierce! Joel Iskiwitch, Joanne Iskiwitch, and Cheryl Adelstein won the $3,500 first place prize on behalf of Jewish Community Relations Council.
Joel is a St. Louis Community Foundation donor and has served as board chair of JCRC, which just celebrated its 85th anniversary, for six years. Joel says, “I became involved [with JCRC] because I believe strongly in its mission to improve the community where we live, work and raise our families so that a stronger, safer and equitable St Louis region allows everyone to flourish. This in turn allows the Jewish members of the region feel safe and empowered. We do our work in partnership with elected officials at the state and local level on both sides of the aisle, with civic and business leaders, and with other faith groups and community associations.”
The team’s trivia win will go towards JCRC’s Student to Student program, which works to combat antisemitism through education in high schools throughout the region. The program provides students the opportunity to learn about Judaism from their peers and build positive relationships. “We are thrilled that our trivia contest win will strengthen the program, and we are grateful for the Community Foundation and the Berges Family Foundation for their generosity,” says Joel.
Lindbergh Schools Foundation claimed the $2,500 second place prize, and Kindness Begins With Me walked away with the $1,500 third place prize. $10,000 in cash prizes were distributed to trivia winners in total.
