St. Louis Community Foundation Announces Bridgeton Landfill Community Project Fund

The St. Louis Community Foundation announces the newly created Bridgeton Landfill Community Project Fund. The Bridgeton Landfill Community Project Fund was announced after a settlement was reached between the State of Missouri and Bridgeton Landfill, LLC, Allied Services, LLC, and Republic Services, Inc. on June 29, 2018.

Among the terms of the Consent Judgment is the creation of a $12.5 million Bridgeton Landfill Community Project Fund. The purpose of the fund is to contribute to the betterment of the environment, public health and safety, and the welfare of the people in the communities near the Bridgeton Landfill. Priority will be given to projects and initiatives within a four-mile radius of the Bridgeton Landfill. The fund does not address the West Lake Landfill or Coldwater Creek.

The St. Louis Community Foundation will create a transparent process for the Bridgeton Landfill Community Project Fund that will provide grants to 501(c)(3) organizations within a four years. Currently, the grant process is being developed and will include extensive input from community groups and individuals.

Grants will be made to nonprofit organizations, projects, and initiatives only. The first grant distributions will begin in 2019. Per the settlement, the St. Louis Community Foundation is prohibited from making any grants to individuals for the purchase of any property or any other payments.
