Large Legends. Highlighting Local Nonprofits for Give STL Day 2026.

Give STL Day is the St. Louis Community Foundation’s annual 24-hour signature community giving event, raising money and awareness for over one thousand local nonprofits serving the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan area year after year.

Last week marked the opening of Early Giving, which runs from April 22nd – May 6th, 2026. With just under two weeks until Give STL Day 2026, we are buzzing with excitement! In our most recent blog posts, we shed a spotlight on a few “Small” and “Medium” nonprofits operating in our region. To learn more about the “super” and “monumental” organizations we highlighted, make sure to click the links.

Today, we want to give a shout to a few of the nonprofits in the region who are operating with a budget of $2,000,001 – $5,000,000 making these “Large” nonprofits and their impact absolutely “Legendary.”

The following organizations are some of the “Large” organizations operating locally.

Just over thirty years ago, Jill Turec, Molly Henry and Susie Snowden came together with a shared dream that, “every child with cancer would experience as much fun, laughter, support, and normalcy as possible.” From this came the birth of “Friends of Kids with Cancer.”

Friends currently partners with three treatment centers to offer a range of support to families navigating the challenging times they face. Friends with Cancer specializes in “Think (Educational) Feel (Emotional), and Smile (Recreational)” programming at no cost to the family. Friends’ educational programming covers in-office and virtual personalized tutoring for patients and their siblings, in addition to educational and neuro-psychological testing, and multiple scholarship opportunities for all career paths. Emotional programming from Friends includes Expressive Therapies, like art, music, and therapeutic horticulture, which is also supplemented with Support Groups and Individual Counseling for support in understanding the journey of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Recreational Programs like Patient & Family parties, In-Clinic Support & Events, Bone Marrow Transplant Support, Individualized Gifts for Patients, and Special Events & Ticket Outings – like shows at the Muny – all aim to keep a smile on the kids’ faces every day. Friends’ also includes a host of events to get involved, like their 17th Annual “Art from the Heart” and their upcoming 2nd Annual “Young Friends Pickleball Tournament.” Using Dr. Bob Bergamini’s philosophy, Friends aims “to treat the needs of the entire child, not only the cancer.”

Since their first volunteer home repair event in 1993, Rebuilding Together St. Louis (RTSTL) has improved safety, health, and independence for more than 4,000 homeowners in St. Louis.

Recognizing many homeowners in the community live in homes with fire risks, tripping hazards, and other home repair needs, their goal is to “reduce home hazards so that homeowners who want to age in place are able to do so comfortably and with less worry” by providing home modifications and repairs for income-qualified older adults, veterans, and people with disabilities.

Rebuilding Together St. Louis’ signature “Rebuilding Days” are hosted in the spring and fall where groups of volunteers, including trade union members who provide tools and materials, complete multiple repairs on a dedicated volunteer workday – and help 30-40 homeowners each season. Year-Round and “Safe at Home” volunteers are partnered with staff to help with home modification and minor repair projects on a regular or scheduled basis. Moreover, through grant funding, Rebuilding Together provides opportunities for contracted repairs. In their most recent fiscal year, homeowners surveyed reported significant impact – such as fear of falling at home dropped from 35% to 11%, and 81% of homeowners with a history of falling reporting ZERO falls three months after service.

Supporting approximately 120 families each year, Rebuilding Together St. Louis’ helps homeowners stay where they want to stay – in their homes. Their mission is simple: “Repairing homes. Revitalizing communities. Rebuilding lives.”
