Invest in Organizations Closest to the Region’s Challenges and Furthest from Funding Opportunities

The St. Louis Community Foundation has secured a matching grant of $250,000 from anonymous donor to continue its commitment to historically under-resourced nonprofits in the St. Louis region.

All contributions to this pooled initiative will be matched 1:1 up to $250,000, resulting to up to $500,000 in total funding.

In 2024, pooled grant dollars and capacity building resources will support approximately 10-20 nonprofit organizations serving young people and families in the areas of health, education, and economic self-sufficiency. Trusted by their constituents and vetted by the St. Louis Community Foundation and an Advisory Committee, organizations that receive funding will demonstrate they are representative of the communities they serve and closest to the region’s challenges and solutions. National and local research shows that organizations fitting this profile receive fewer committed dollars for their critical efforts.

This matching challenge builds on the St. Louis Community Foundation’s previous Black Communities Investment Initiative (2021-2023), which disbursed over $1.3 million in operating grants for 82 Black-led organizations to fund programs in the areas of education, health, and economic self-sufficiency, such as community-based tutoring, integrated mental and behavioral health services, and financial empowerment workshops. The Black Communities Investment initiative also provided these nonprofits with free access to technical assistance in fundraising, marketing, executive coaching, and project-based support.
