Charitable Support Fees

The St. Louis Community Foundation provides personal and customized administrative services, grantmaking expertise, charitable advisory services, and strategic giving consulting.

Our staff are experts in our region’s charitable giving community, specializing in community-centric work. They serve as a resource to wealth advisors whose clients are interested in investing in a local charitable network. Charitable support fees allow the Community Foundation to differentiate itself in the local, national, and global philanthropic landscape.

The Benefits of Charitable Support Fees

Charitable support fees further the Community Foundation’s efforts to grow informed philanthropy in our region. Through our work, we support systemic initiatives and funds such as:

  • Center for Civic Research and Innovation (CCRI): CCRI collects and provides data analyses for local entities and nonprofits that may not have the resources or capacity needed to conduct their own research. Recent projects include the St. Louis Digital Divide, a study on internet connectivity in St. Louis.
  • Give STL Day: Created by the Community Foundation, this 24-hour online day of giving is designed to ignite the spirit of giving across the region. Since its inception in 2014, Give STL Day has raised over $26 million.
  • My Scholarship Central: Connecting students to financial resources for college, the My Scholarship Central search tool helps students in Missouri, Kansas, and the Metro East counties of St. Louis and Illinois find the scholarship providers that serve their area.
  • St. Louis Welcome Fund: A strategic way to answer the call to support refugees and asylum seekers. The Welcome Fund will help support a coordinated community response and fill gaps in funding as service providers adjust to an influx of needs in rapidly evolving circumstances.

The Community Foundation has also facilitated the establishment of new nonprofits in our region by providing support for donor contributions, grantmaking opportunities, and administrative needs for organizations such as St. Louis Youth Jobs, Regional Response Team, and Invest STL.

Complete Philanthropic Service

The Community Foundation provides 24/7 fund access via our donor portal. Our team assists with due diligence, site visits, organization evaluation, gifting of highly appreciated complex/illiquid assets, and much more. Our cost-effective giving expertise provides a truly personalized experience.

Investment Options and Fee Structure

The Community Foundation can accept cash, marketable securities, and illiquid assets. Additionally, funds at a certain level can stay under management of an approved wealth advisor. Apart from advisor managed accounts, donors may recommend investments to one of the Community Foundation’s investment options:

  • Vanguard Pooled Accounts
  • Social Responsibility
  • Money Market

The potential for growth with these investment options may lead to the opportunity to grant out a greater amount than the initial investment.

Fees

Support fees are the only fee charged by the Community Foundation. They are quoted as a percentage of the fund’s quarterly average asset value. Support fees are deducted quarterly from the fund.

Additionally, investment management fees vary depending on the investment manager(s). Therefore, there is no schedule of fees. The Community Foundation places no transaction fees or markups on investment management fees.
